Some Fun Stuff for Monday - A Lot About Andy

Here are a few interesting things I came across this past weekend and I thought I'd share with all of you...

An interesting interview with Tina Fey and her husband in Vanity Fair. I'm not sure I like how much the article emphasizes Tina's hotness, rather than her intelligence and general awesomeness, but I'll take it.

Another 30 Rock related article in The New Yorker, unfortunately Nancy Franklin doesn't really seem to get the show, or how great it is.

I was playing this all weekend. I suck. Like really badly. I can only get through the levels by copying the awesome things other people build, but it's still a tremendous amount of fun. And a great waste of time in the workplace.

Also, in a mini-things-I-bought-that-I-love post, I received this:

over the weekend. Brilliant! Who doesn't love Andrew Bernards' cheery face leering at them while drinking coffee? I can't think of a single person...more are available here.

And, finally, for all you A.C. lovers out there (like me), who haven't seen this yet:

Um, yes, please. Too bad that goofy guy is in the video, too.

Best. Day. Ever.

Reminder!!! "30 Rock" returns tonight - DON'T forget!! I haven't watched the first episode online...I'm holding out for the HD broadcast on my TV, but I've heard good things about the season premiere. It has to be better than "The Office" so far this season, right? I mean, come on. The only redeeming quality of that show is the Michael-Holly relationship and we all know that's over soon, since Amy Ryan's just a guest star. Jim and Pam are boring and annoying, they clearly won't break up, so what's with all the tension? Angela's being a ho (and also completely out of character), there's not enough Ed Helms, Kelly Kapoor, or Kevin, and Dwight being depressed makes me upset. Whatever. At least I have Liz, Jack, and Kenneth back in my life starting tonight at 9:30. Oh, and Dr. Spaceman, everyone's favorite fake doctor. We all know Tina Fey won't give us pedestrian, overdone story lines involving couples getting together, creating needless tension, breaking up, and getting back together. She'll give us some crazy story involving an anteater, Dr. Spaceman's long-lost mother, a Soy Joy bar, and Jack working at Baskin' Robbins to get back at Devon Banks. Pure brilliance.

Perhaps a recap to come tomorrow? We'll see how work goes. Also on the horizon - a trip to see (read: stalk) Ian Riggs as part of Ethan Lipton and His Orchestra. Oh, yeah, and that's tomorrow, bitches!!! I know you're jealous!

All the Plumbers in the House Pull Your Pants Up

In case anyone missed this brilliant piece of television history:

Amy Poehler is made of win.

Also, Jason Sudeikis looks shockingly good with a goatee and mullet (?). What's that about? I love that he was able to bust out his awesome dance moves again. "The Fighting Irish," anyone? Don't remember? You can watch it here:

Also, a shout-out to my first Office boyfriend, John Krasinski, who has a birthday today...here's picture for those of you who still love him more than Ed Helms (although I don't know how that's possible).

30 Rock Update

I have the DVD. I've only watched the first three episodes, but I have some thoughts:

1. Jack had a collection of cookie jars. He gave them to Kenneth.
2. Tigers turn into Chinese dudes at night.
3. Me want food.
4. Dr. Spaceman is awesome.

I am trying to get through the commentaries, but currently I'm watching the best Ed Helms-as-Tom Brokaw impersonator ever, Tom Brokaw, moderate the debate.

Best Day Ever? Or GREATEST Day Ever?

Just a quick note to inform you that "30 Rock" Season 2 comes out on DVD today. I will be heading to Best Buy to purchase it during lunch. Then, I will promptly spend the rest of my afternoon at work watching the commentaries.

Friday List of Random Things

Five things that I love:
1. Ed Helms.

I've stated this fact here, here, here, and here. Also here. Definitely here. I think I've blogged about it ad nauseum, so I'll leave you to click on the links above, rather than continue on.

2. Tomatoes. They're the perfect food. Sweet, tart, acidic, high in fiber and the delicious antioxidant, lycopene. I like mine sliced, sprinkled with salt and pepper, and served on a fresh baguette drizzled with olive oil. Is there any more perfect meal? It's followed closely by the best sandwich ever - the BLT.

Tomato AND bacon in one sandwich? Sold. They key to my heart? A basket of late summer heirloom tomatoes and a slab of bacon. Seriously. Ed, are you paying attention?

3. The Yankees, specifically Bernie Williams.

Yes, the Yankees have their critics. I can't even argue so much against their hatred. The Yankees do trade away young talent (not so much anymore, Cano and Melky are still there, right?), in favor of expensive, older, arguably better players. Yes, George Steinbrenner is kind of an a-hole, although I won't talk smack about a man in ill health. But, they're a classy organization, no member of the team looks like he rolled out of bed and onto the field to play, no one talks smack about anyone else, and any clubhouse issues are handled within the organization (for the most part), not in the tabloids or media. In my opinion, Bernie was the epitome of a Yankee player - quiet, good, and always playing for the betterment of the team. Plus, he's cute.

4. 30 Rock. Tina Fey is simply the most awesome person ever. I either want to be her or make out with her, I'm not sure which one would be better. Clearly, anything she's a part of can't be bad, but 30 Rock, brings her to a whole new level of awesome. Her interactions with Alec Baldwin and, well, really everyone in the cast, make that show spectacular.

But even the lovely Tina aside, the minor characters, Dr. Spaceman, every character Rachel Dratch plays, the actors and writers who play the writers, and, clearly, the adorable-ness that is Jason Sudeikis as Flyod, they all bring so much funny to the show and have created the best show currently on television. Yes, I said it. It's better than The Office. The Office may have Ed, but, overall, 30 Rock is the better, more consistently funny show. In my opinion. You guys can watch whatever you want. I'll probably make fun of you if you don't like 30 Rock, though.

5. Vodka martinis.

Yes, I know a "real" martini is supposed to be made with "gin," and not vodka, but I like the vodka martini better. Sue me. It's delicious and gets you nice and happy drunk after just one. I mean, I've been known to throw down a glass* of wine on occasion** but sometimes you just want that icy, cold fermented potato juice and olive garnish. Always tasty and mostly good, provided the bar has some good vodka on hand. I've been liking Grey Goose, but I'm open to other vodka suggestions. I don't really know that much about vodka, maybe I'll do some Googling. Or maybe I'll do some real-life research now...that bottle of vodka in my freezer is calling me.

Next Friday, look for the list of five things that I HATE.

Edited to add:
6. EdT and BW: Because they're both made of awesome, EdT has been my friend since, well, forever, "black and orange yellow," and BW because she agreed to be in my lame-ass study and because it feels like I've been friends with her forever. I heart you both!!!!

Jason Sudeikis Post of the Day: One Breadstick and a Free Jug of Wine

Gosh, I haven't done one of these in a while (TWSS).

From the NY Post:

Jason Sudeikis first won us over as one half of the “A-Holes” (brilliantly paired with Kristen Wiig) on Saturday Night Live. Now, Jason, 32, is turning up everywhere from 30 Rock (his wife, Kay, is a writer for the show) to a role as a smarmy music exec in The Rocker, out Aug. 20. The Fairfax, Va.–born actor, who now calls the West Village home, has only lived in Manhattan for five years, but he’s learned a lot in that short time. For instance: Jason won’t eat street meat, but he will get curbside massages. “The guys who grab you may look sketchy, but the massages are really awesome.” Good to know.

1 If you could have a dish named after you at any NYC restaurant, what would it be? The Sudeikis Dish would be served at the Times Square Olive Garden. Instead of unlimited salad and breadsticks for $5.99,you’d get one breadstick, a very, very small salad for $29.99 and a free jug of wine. You’d order it to impress people.

2 If you had six dollars in your pocket, what would you buy in a bodega? Gum and Electronic Gaming Monthly. Yeah, nerd alert! Then as I walked out, I’d very gladly say to the guy behind the counter, “Keep the change, my good man.”

3 What New Yorker would you love to meet? Mike Nichols, a founding father of [Chicago’s] Second City theater company. He’s also an amazing director. And his wife, Diane [Sawyer], is easy on the eyes, so if I could listen to him while looking at her, I’d say that’s a fun night.

4 Who’s the most famous New Yorker you have programmed into your cell phone? The Statue of Liberty. I met her at Bungalow 8. When she takes that toga off, heavens to Betsy! But I think she has implants—don’t tell anyone I told you. OK, seriously? Probably Tina Fey.

5 What’s one really overrated New York attraction? Times Square. Thank God the Naked Cowboy is there to keep it classy.

Source.

ETA: Actually...in looking over this post now (8:30 pm), that may be the gayest picture of Jason Sudeikis EVER. Sorry, Jason. It's from your Myspace Fan Page...go yell at them.

The Return

In honor of "The Return" of "30 Rock and "The Office," some friends (KN, MD) and I decided to have a Mexican Fiesta, to celebrate and give us an excuse to drink excessive wine on a weeknight. Yes, I know rioja isn't Mexican, but it's Spanish...and there is Spanish spoken in Mexico. So that makes it OK.

On the menu: Chicken and Pepper fajitas, corn, rice, lots of wine, and the BEST. ICE CREAM. EVER.
Photobucket
More on that in another post.

For the chicken fajitas, I made a marinade of olive oil, lime juice, lime zest, garlic, cilantro, and some secret spices. Then, I cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise and added them to the marinade and let them sit in the fridge for about two hours. I would have let them marinate longer, but I didn't get home from work early enough...

Once KN had arrived with the rest of the food, I prepared the other delicious things.
Sauteing the onions:
Photobucket
Chopping the peppers and cilantro (on my fancy new bamboo cutting board, endorsed by none other than duck-fat-as-gel himself, Ming Tsai):
Photobucket
(If you're really crafty, you can see some of my secret spices in the background...)
Grilling the chicken:
Photobucket
Please excuse my filthy stove...that chicken was spitting like a MOFO on the grill. Plus, I haven't cleaned my stove in a while.
While I was busy in the kitchen, KN took over my usual duties of fashioning the TablesKape. Here it is (!):
Photobucket
Chili pepper lights, some tequila, two pairs of maracas, some chipotle pepper powder, a lime, and a lemon. All Mexican inspired items, except for the lemon. But every good tablesKape must contain a llllllllemon, Aunt Sandy requires it. And we don't want to piss off that bitch. She'll make us eat the Kwanzaa Kake of Racial Insensitivity as punishment.
"Glamor" shot of food:
Photobucket
There were also some multi grain tortillas and the delicious fajita toppings of sour cream and freshly shredded cheddar cheese (the good stuff, none of that Sargento Mexican blend nonsense).
My plate of food:
Photobucket
Notice we had actually plugged the chili lights in at this point. Unfortunately, due to my lack of extension cord, we had to remove them from the main tablesKape in order to plug them in. Thus, we were left with the main sKape and a kind of auxiliary tablesKape. I think Aunt Sandy would be proud.

Next, it was time to dig into the ice cream!
Photobucket
Oh God, the salted delicious caramel-i-ness. I feel the drool forming just thinking about it. The baby Jesus was certainly not crying as we ate it.

After about two and half bottles of rioja, we had the brilliant idea to create a second and much more involved TablesKape. Here it is (although I'm embarrassed to show you the results of our drunken antics, but I love you all so much, I can't help myself):
Photobucket
The lemon's still there (clearly), but now we have the addition of a few key items. Things that make any sKape better. Stephen Colbert, Bernie Williams, Yankees paraphernalia, and, the most important, floating wine glass. God, we are such degenerates. Although, this makes slightly more sense if I tell you we were watching the Yankees game at this point, as "30 Rock" and "The Office" had been long over.

As far as the actual shows go, I really enjoyed "30 Rock." I love seeing Liz Lemon as kind of evil ("I am the DECIDER!") and Jack playing her, what with the stuttering and sweeping piles of dust, was awesome. I actually really like the Pete subplot, and died laughing when he dialed his own extension at random. Plus, I actually liked how they kept paralleling the episode with what was happening on MILF Island, even if it was a little obvious. For "The Office," I don't know. It was really an episode that shows how uncomfortable the show can be to watch at times. I definitely need to watch it again, I always like those kinds of episodes more after repeated viewings. I just kind of feel the writers are painting Jan into a corner here, what are they going to do? Send her to a mental institution? I can't see any other way to deal with her character (since we all know she's not going to be Michael's girlfriend for long, not after she broke his TV with his own DUNDIE. That's messed up!). It kind of sucks, I think she's an awesome character, so deeply flawed and crazy, but never as overtly mentally unstable as in this episode, in my opinion.

There were some good moments, though. Angela asking what she's supposed to do with the flower and telling Dwight she doesn't want to put one of his beets into his mouth. Ed Helms in general (him harmonizing with Hunter's song, come on, how is that NOT awse?). Jim trying to leave Pam at the condo and almost vomiting at the smell of the fire candles. Also, Pam's "Awesome!" when Dwight showed up was too, too cute. As much as I think Jan is a waste of a character now, her, "Oh, this will be great to cook with" in response to the wine Pam brought was so hilariously bitchy, it was probably one of the few times I laughed out loud. I'll watch it again, I promise. Don't yell at me for not liking it so much.

So, getting back to The Return, thus basically ended our evening. Well, there were some drunken discussions about living by ourselves on an island compound, the state of food in the American South, and I'm sure a lot of me screaming, "I love Ed Helms," but that's all you guys need to know about. Well, maybe one more thing:
Photobucket
I really love Brett Favre.

Worst. Idea. Ever. - Do. Not. Want.

Apparently, brilliant Ben Silverman decided he needs to milk every last drop of goodness from the show he helped get (and keep) on the air (The Office) by creating The Office Spinoff, to premiere after the Superbowl and then air on NBC after The Office on Thursdays. Greg Daniels is "behind" the idea...whatever that means. Isn't he busy with the original U.S. version? How will they possibly take two shows that are practically the same and make them both interesting? The only way this could possibly work in my book is if the "spinoff" follows Jason Sudeikis (the "new" Jim-like character) as Floyd - lawyer at wacky law firm in The Cleve. You know, a hybrid 30 Rock + The Office combo. With a crazy boss. And a hunting-obsessed co-worker. And Ed Helms. Because even if Jason Sudekis and Ed Helms are on screen together, nothing bad can happen. Right?

Some pictures for good measure...and the hotness will make you feel better about this horrible, horrible idea.

SAG Awards 2008 - DAWESOME!!

Yea!! "The Office" won Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series. And, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin BOTH won for "30 Rock!" Strong night! Now I can finally stop watching this debacle of a television "program."

Side note: Ed looks hot in his suit. I wish I could find an effing picture of him...he's probably not famous enough to warrant even a pity-photo. It's OK, Ed, you're still my favorite!

ETA - Here's a group shot - you can kind of see Ed! They all look so nice (and shiny)!
