Like Minivans and Candles: The Ed Helms Post of the Day

You may remember this post. Or not, that's fair - it was a while ago. But, I wanted to remind you, since the day has finally come: the web series in which Jason Sudeikis and Ed Helms are both a part of premiered today at The WB. While they don't actually share any scenes, and, really don't have such big parts, the series is pretty funny and definitely worth a watch. I watched all ten episodes today (at work, don't tell), basically in succession, and it helped me pass the time nicely, you know, instead of running some ANCOVAs in SAS.

The series is called Children's Hospital, and it's a spoof on all the medical dramas on TV. Think Scrubs, but MUCH more NSFW (and more hilarious). Rob Corddry created the series and wrote all the scripts, but also stars as a doctor who tries to heal with the power of laughter (comedy gold, right? I know). The always funny Megan Mullally also stars as the chief surgeon and one of my favorites from the fantastic Veronica Mars (RIP), Ken Marino also stars. I won't give too much away (the episodes are only like 4 minutes long, you can power-through them during your lunch break) but sufficed to say there's a lot of making out, doctors making out with each other, doctors making out with patients (who may or may not be 6 years-old), doctors performing vasectomies on said 6 year-olds, creepy clowns, and Ed Helms' tongue. Hot.

Also, the fact that Ed is in the series gives me an excuse to post this awesome picture again:

Happy Monday! Enjoy Children's Hospital!

P.S. If you watch the preview for the series, you may recognize a familiar, and quite attractive, voice.

All the Plumbers in the House Pull Your Pants Up

In case anyone missed this brilliant piece of television history:

Amy Poehler is made of win.

Also, Jason Sudeikis looks shockingly good with a goatee and mullet (?). What's that about? I love that he was able to bust out his awesome dance moves again. "The Fighting Irish," anyone? Don't remember? You can watch it here:

Also, a shout-out to my first Office boyfriend, John Krasinski, who has a birthday today...here's picture for those of you who still love him more than Ed Helms (although I don't know how that's possible).

Friday List of Random Things

Five things that I love:
1. Ed Helms.

I've stated this fact here, here, here, and here. Also here. Definitely here. I think I've blogged about it ad nauseum, so I'll leave you to click on the links above, rather than continue on.

2. Tomatoes. They're the perfect food. Sweet, tart, acidic, high in fiber and the delicious antioxidant, lycopene. I like mine sliced, sprinkled with salt and pepper, and served on a fresh baguette drizzled with olive oil. Is there any more perfect meal? It's followed closely by the best sandwich ever - the BLT.

Tomato AND bacon in one sandwich? Sold. They key to my heart? A basket of late summer heirloom tomatoes and a slab of bacon. Seriously. Ed, are you paying attention?

3. The Yankees, specifically Bernie Williams.

Yes, the Yankees have their critics. I can't even argue so much against their hatred. The Yankees do trade away young talent (not so much anymore, Cano and Melky are still there, right?), in favor of expensive, older, arguably better players. Yes, George Steinbrenner is kind of an a-hole, although I won't talk smack about a man in ill health. But, they're a classy organization, no member of the team looks like he rolled out of bed and onto the field to play, no one talks smack about anyone else, and any clubhouse issues are handled within the organization (for the most part), not in the tabloids or media. In my opinion, Bernie was the epitome of a Yankee player - quiet, good, and always playing for the betterment of the team. Plus, he's cute.

4. 30 Rock. Tina Fey is simply the most awesome person ever. I either want to be her or make out with her, I'm not sure which one would be better. Clearly, anything she's a part of can't be bad, but 30 Rock, brings her to a whole new level of awesome. Her interactions with Alec Baldwin and, well, really everyone in the cast, make that show spectacular.

But even the lovely Tina aside, the minor characters, Dr. Spaceman, every character Rachel Dratch plays, the actors and writers who play the writers, and, clearly, the adorable-ness that is Jason Sudeikis as Flyod, they all bring so much funny to the show and have created the best show currently on television. Yes, I said it. It's better than The Office. The Office may have Ed, but, overall, 30 Rock is the better, more consistently funny show. In my opinion. You guys can watch whatever you want. I'll probably make fun of you if you don't like 30 Rock, though.

5. Vodka martinis.

Yes, I know a "real" martini is supposed to be made with "gin," and not vodka, but I like the vodka martini better. Sue me. It's delicious and gets you nice and happy drunk after just one. I mean, I've been known to throw down a glass* of wine on occasion** but sometimes you just want that icy, cold fermented potato juice and olive garnish. Always tasty and mostly good, provided the bar has some good vodka on hand. I've been liking Grey Goose, but I'm open to other vodka suggestions. I don't really know that much about vodka, maybe I'll do some Googling. Or maybe I'll do some real-life research now...that bottle of vodka in my freezer is calling me.

Next Friday, look for the list of five things that I HATE.

Edited to add:
6. EdT and BW: Because they're both made of awesome, EdT has been my friend since, well, forever, "black and orange yellow," and BW because she agreed to be in my lame-ass study and because it feels like I've been friends with her forever. I heart you both!!!!

TNFNS - WTF, Food Network?

So, apparently, Aaron won this season of TNFNS, but, you didn't even need to watch the finale to find out. What is wrong with Food Network? Did they leak the winner to try and create more drama and controversy? If so, um, not a good call, PR people. Did they leak the winner by accident? If so, I hope some tech peeps got fired for that. Also, why, why, why, is Aaron holding a half-peeled apple in his promo shot?

What sort of culinary preparation requires a half-peeled apple? And how did they prevent it from turning brown immediately after peeling? Clearly, the only explanation is that Food Network has some kind of magical, almost witch-like powers. They cast spells on apples so they don't turn brown when shooting inexplicable promo photos and perform other types of sorcery to keep me watching the crap they put on the air. I give up.

On a delightful side note, here's a programming reminder:
Jason Sudeikis will be on Late Night with Conan O'Brien tonight.

Jason Sudeikis Post of the Day: One Breadstick and a Free Jug of Wine

Gosh, I haven't done one of these in a while (TWSS).

From the NY Post:

Jason Sudeikis first won us over as one half of the “A-Holes” (brilliantly paired with Kristen Wiig) on Saturday Night Live. Now, Jason, 32, is turning up everywhere from 30 Rock (his wife, Kay, is a writer for the show) to a role as a smarmy music exec in The Rocker, out Aug. 20. The Fairfax, Va.–born actor, who now calls the West Village home, has only lived in Manhattan for five years, but he’s learned a lot in that short time. For instance: Jason won’t eat street meat, but he will get curbside massages. “The guys who grab you may look sketchy, but the massages are really awesome.” Good to know.

1 If you could have a dish named after you at any NYC restaurant, what would it be? The Sudeikis Dish would be served at the Times Square Olive Garden. Instead of unlimited salad and breadsticks for $5.99,you’d get one breadstick, a very, very small salad for $29.99 and a free jug of wine. You’d order it to impress people.

2 If you had six dollars in your pocket, what would you buy in a bodega? Gum and Electronic Gaming Monthly. Yeah, nerd alert! Then as I walked out, I’d very gladly say to the guy behind the counter, “Keep the change, my good man.”

3 What New Yorker would you love to meet? Mike Nichols, a founding father of [Chicago’s] Second City theater company. He’s also an amazing director. And his wife, Diane [Sawyer], is easy on the eyes, so if I could listen to him while looking at her, I’d say that’s a fun night.

4 Who’s the most famous New Yorker you have programmed into your cell phone? The Statue of Liberty. I met her at Bungalow 8. When she takes that toga off, heavens to Betsy! But I think she has implants—don’t tell anyone I told you. OK, seriously? Probably Tina Fey.

5 What’s one really overrated New York attraction? Times Square. Thank God the Naked Cowboy is there to keep it classy.

ETA: Actually...in looking over this post now (8:30 pm), that may be the gayest picture of Jason Sudeikis EVER. Sorry, Jason. It's from your Myspace Fan Page...go yell at them.

Worst. Idea. Ever. - Do. Not. Want.

Apparently, brilliant Ben Silverman decided he needs to milk every last drop of goodness from the show he helped get (and keep) on the air (The Office) by creating The Office Spinoff, to premiere after the Superbowl and then air on NBC after The Office on Thursdays. Greg Daniels is "behind" the idea...whatever that means. Isn't he busy with the original U.S. version? How will they possibly take two shows that are practically the same and make them both interesting? The only way this could possibly work in my book is if the "spinoff" follows Jason Sudeikis (the "new" Jim-like character) as Floyd - lawyer at wacky law firm in The Cleve. You know, a hybrid 30 Rock + The Office combo. With a crazy boss. And a hunting-obsessed co-worker. And Ed Helms. Because even if Jason Sudekis and Ed Helms are on screen together, nothing bad can happen. Right?

Some pictures for good measure...and the hotness will make you feel better about this horrible, horrible idea.

Jason Sudeikis Dimple Post of the Day

Actually, I don't know if you can actually see his dimples, but it's 'awse' when he punches Andy Samburg repeatedly in the face - something I almost always want to do.

ETA - Yeah, just press the play button at the bottom and the video will appear, I don't know why it's like this...apparently I don't know how to copy and paste the "embed" link properly. Degenerate.

French Night

In honor of (none of) our heritage, as well as using it as an excuse to drink excessive amounts of wine on a weeknight, some friends and I decided to have a night in celebration of the French.

The TablesKape:

Notice the French wine, the French cookware (blue Le Creuset 2 -qt oval oven, plus bonus blue Le Creuset small spatual-spoon - I absolutely will NOT call it a "spoonula" like screechy ho), the cover page to my "Classic French Cooking" book from cooking school, the sea salt (imported from France), the French wine bottle-candle, and, most importantly, the traditional French condiment - Heinz ketchup (you can't tell, b/c the picture is small, but the label IS in French). Technically, it was imported from Canada, so we have some legitimate French items and one semi-ho, French-Canadian item. I think the combination of legitimate and semi-ho is the base for any TablesKape. Although I guess I should have gone the other way - maybe, say, 70% semi-ho and 30% legitimate?

The Menu:
Again, notice the sign, proclaiming the food as "classic French cooking."

Roasted Chicken with Potatoes and Carrots (I promise I'll post the recipe later, no time now, I have to go to Happy Hour)
Mushrooms Sauteed with Shallots, Garlic, and White Wine
French Baguette
Herbed Brie
Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc

Some closeups of the food:

Roasted Vegetables - delicious and nutritious, especially when covered in olive oil. Also notice the platter warming in the oven - it's important to warm your plates before serving food on them.

Food Prep - Golden-brown chicken? Check. Chicken Jus reducing on the stove? Check. Delicious sauteed mushrooms? Check. Bowl of disgusting chicken fat and impurities? Check. Horribly filthy stove - the result of drinking pinot noir while cooking dinner? Check and double-check!

A closeup of the dismembered chicken:

Here, it's important to see the garnish (thyme sprigs) was also used when preparing the chicken. Nothing is worse than an giant rosemary tree sticking out of a bowl of Pad Thai. Just because the herb is pretty doesn't mean it belongs on your platter. The garnish should match the food. Hear that, T.G.I. Friday's? That being said, I didn't use cell phones in the recipe, so ignore that part of the garnish. Also important - I was three glasses in when I carved that mofo, so apparently my dismembering skills are still intact!

The Entertainment:
Initially, we thought we would watch "Sideways," figuring that, despite the fact that it's not really French or even remotely related to France, it's at least about wine, which the French seem to like - and, to be fair, we like it, too. So, clearly, win-win. However, by the time we ate, bashed N.P., and watched assorted episodes of "30 Rock" season 1 on DVD, (solely to squee about how cute Jason Sudeikis is in the show - God, his dimples are INSANE!!!! - see examples below:

also, this example, b/c it's adorable, even without the displaying of the dimples):

we decided it was best to further delay watching the movie, perhaps saving it for German Night (yes, I know, even LESS related to the movie than French Night) or Ed's Birthday celebration next week. The rest if the entertainment consisted of "A Daily Show" (brilliant clips of young Jon, before he had entered this "thankless untenable situation") and The ColberT ReporT (GOP primary roulette, anyone?). In fact, Stephen IS French-Canadian, so actually did watch something marginally French-related. French-Canadian for the win. Strong night all around.
